Assalamualaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabarokatuh

Hi everyone, how are you?  I hope well.  On October 12, 2021, the day my class is studying English for journalists.  The activities that our class does are still the same as usual, namely watching videos on youtube and then leaving comments so that they can continue the next quiz.

The first material is about "Broadcast Journalism".
Broadcasting is the process for displaying the news this way which means to use a video camera or microphone for radio and send that recording to television sets radio and computers. In broadcast, journalists deliver the news using videos that are shows on TV or internet. Creating for news television internet or radio is similar to print media generally called news programs. Program is a regularly scheduled broadcast news show. News programs are live which means seeing and hearing what broadcast journalists are saying. The next is segment means that a news story that's broadcasted rather than printed. And the next is copy means is a script or written text of what the journalist is going to say. It's important that broadcast journalists don't broadcast segments that have mistakes with the news can cause the people to stop watching. The copy segment is approved it's sent to a teleprompter. Teleprompter is a machine that shows electronic text.

The next material is about "People Who Deliver The News". In video or audio form:
1. Anchors means the journalist who reads the news on camera
2. Correspondents are other journalist who work on the news and appear on the program and broadcast journalist who present news segments. It's common for a correspondent to travel where the news is happening and reports from there called on location.
3. Producers decides what news stories to show and how long each story will be and in what order and also direct the show as being the broadcast. Producers is the person with the final approval for copy before a story is added to a particular program
4. Control room operators means the people who prepare video clips, edit sound and control the teleprompter.

The next material is about "The Types of Stories For Broadcast Journalism".
There are several  types of stories including:
1. Commentary is a type of news program where the anchor offers their opinion and analysis of a current event and most often found on 24 hour news stations. Generally commentary shows are quite popular right before an election and provided detailed news about politician.
2. Consumers reports reviews or compares the things that buy and takes a critical look at a product or service.
3. Feel-good stories that leave the audience feeling good about the world. Generally focus on a person or people similar to a human interest.

The next material is about "Using Conventional Style". The conversational style that broadcasters connects to the audience.
Three things style:
1. Using short and simple sentences because the viewers only get one chance to hear what's being reported.
2. Lead-in sentence means that the first sentence of the segment and acts as a summary to let the viewer know the subject and the feeling of the report.
3. Contractions have a conversation often use shortened versions of words in our speech such as will not - won't, I am - I'm, Have not - haven't, Has not - hasn't, Do not - don't, Is not - isn't, Are not - aren't.

The next material is about "Present Tense and Active Voice". Broadcasters use present tense and active voice to connect with audience. Broadcasters presents the news to communicate immediacy  which means feel like something is happening now and they are involved in the story.
1. Present tense - they're mostly use present progressive to describe actions that are happening now and make this by using a form of the verb (to + be and -ing) onto the main verb.
2. Active voice is livelier and help the broadcaster to create a conversation with the audience.

The next material is about "Ratings in TV News How Journalists Compete".
Broadcast journalists face when trying to deliver the news on television and how the competition between news programs is measured.
There are two ways television journalists try to compete to get the most viewers. Each program wants to have the the most of viewers and how do channels measure and how many people watching. To know which news program has the most viewers:
1. Ratings show the number the viewers each news program has. Ratings are report. There are a couple of things that news programs can do to stand out to offer their viewers.
2. Exclusive means that not shared with others. This exclusive will help newshour at 10 get more viewers because they will learn information that cannot find on any other news programs.

The next material is about "Sensationalism in TV News". Sensationalism means that making a story sound more dramatic or exciting than it really is.
Here are the types:
1. Celebrity culture means that happen to regular people like weddings divorces or healths problems can be big news when they happen to celebrities. Celebrity is a fomous person.
2. Paparazzi focuses on celebrity culture. Paparazzi is the type of journalist who follows celebrities and reports on their every move. Paparazzi can make a lot of money selling those pictures and stories to news programs.
3. Over reporting and disaster. A disaster is an extreme event that involves the weather like tornadoes, tsunami and so on, transportation like a missing plane and so on, and unexpected violence.
4. Shock value usually makes viewers feel strong negative emotions like fear or anger.

The next material is about "The 24 hour News Cycle". 24 hour new cycle means  that the cable TV news channels that broadcast for 24 hours a day. This created competition for ratings because the success of a channel is based on the number of viewers. apart from less truth and accuracy the are two main ways that 24 hour news cycle has:
1. An increase in giving opinions change to the 24 hour news resulted in a lot more time to fill the experts to give their opinions. The opinions are often biased because this is what the audience wants to hear.
2. The manipulation of the audience. Manipulating means focusing in certain types of stories in order to make people believe something that may not be true.

The next material is about "Stress and Pausing". Stress and pausing to help read out the story and help to communicate the important information in a sentence and also give the audience time to understand the meaning of the story.
1. Stressing key words. In a sentence some words are more important than others. The content words are usually the ones that broadcaster give the stresses and then the audience know the important facts of a story.
2. Pausing means stopping for a short time before read the next word. There are several reasons for doing this:
- Gives listeners time to understand
- Makes overall speed slower
- Breaks the sentence into groups of words, each with a key word or phrase.

There are several of the material that I have learned in the sixth meeting, if you want to add something you can write in the comments column.

Thank you.
