 Assalamualaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabarokatuh

Hello everyone, how are you?  I hope well.  On October 5, 2021, the day in my class is studying English for journalists.  The activities that our class does are still the same as usual, namely watching videos on youtube and then leaving comments so that they can continue the next quiz.

The first material is about "Associated Press (AP) Style". There are three parts of AP style.

1. Capitalization which means when to use a capital letter in the beginning of a word such as in the sentence and for certain nouns like the names of people, countries, and cities.

2. Numbers in AP style from 1 through to 9 should always be spelled out. When numbers get very large who need to spell out millions and billions of those numbers words.

3. Dates regarding the months of the year some should be abbreviated and some should not.

The next material is about "The Structure and Meaning of the Active and Passive Voice".

Active voice which means is the subject in the sentence is the doer of the verb. The structure of active sentence is subject followed by verb and object necessary.

Passive voice. We can see the use of passive voice to focus on the action or the receiver of the action not the doer. The subject in passive voice sentence is the object in that same sentence. The structure of the passive voice is to expressed of the verb in two parts the verb to be (am, is, are, were, was) and the past participle we can add (d or ed).

The next material is about "When and Why to use Active and Passive Voice". Talk about the active voice most of the time to use because it's simple and brief. Using active voice cases accomplishes the goal. Now even the most of the time to use the active  voice sometimes it's necessary to use passive voice.

Look at when to use passive:

1. Focus on the receiver or the action and not the doer of the verb.

2. Understand who the doer is from the information in the rest of the sentence.

The next is material is about "Reporting Accurately" by gathering multiple and seeing if they agree. perspectives means more than one point of view on the same thing. The journalist needs to talk to other sources and need to get multiple perspectives. If the person's of the story agree with another person's then we call this confirmation. Confirmation means checking for the truth and accuracy.

The last material is about "How to Proofread an Article". It's very important for journalist to do this before they submit an article to the copy editor. Proofread means reading a finished article to check for errors.

There are three focus aspects of proofreading (punctuation, capitalization and spelling).

1. Punctuation means commas periods apostrophes colons and other marks. A common error is to have one long sentence separated by comma split into two sentences.

2. Capitalization that is important part of proofread.

3. Spelling. The spell checker in our words.

There are two common rules most spelling in English:

a. Changing y to ies

b. Doubling up consonants.

Above are some of the material that I have learned in the sixth meeting, if you want to add something you can write in the comments column.

Thankyou
