Third Blogs

 Assalamualaikum Warrahmatullah Wabarokatuh..

Hello everyone, how are you today?  I thank those who have read my second blog, thank you also for those who have given their responses. Whoever reads my blog this time, I wish you all a healthy and happy state.  Now I want to share my story again about learning intercultural communication taught by Miss Lely Novia on March 16, 2021. It is still the same as last week's meeting, namely continuing discussions and presentations between groups. This time there were three groups performing, the first performing group today brought the cultural theme of the luwuk tribe, then the second group brought the theme of Enrekang culture, and the next group presented the theme of the Konjo tribe.

The first story is about the luwu tribe.

The Luwu people are the original inhabitants who live in the Luwu Regency, East Luwu Regency and North Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi Province. In the luwu area there is a quite sacred activity called bissu. Bissu is the name for traditional priests in indigenous peoples in South Sulawesi, especially the Bone and Bugis tribes. In the Bugis language, Bussi comes from the word "Bessi" which means clean. They are men who look like women, but have magical powers that are rarely possessed by just anyone. The feminine attitude they show is deliberate and part of the customary demands that they believe are in accordance with the Book of La Galigo.

They were welcoming the Datu Luwu envoy who intended to take Pisimeuni holy water from Puak Cerekang's house. On that day and the following days, all residents of Kedatuan Luwu were indeed preparing for a big celebration to establish a Baruga or a grand pavilion. This grand ceremony is called Mappacokkong Ri Baruga.

Mappacokkong Ri Baruga is a procession entering Baruga by Datu Luwu. This ritual begins with taking Pisimeuni holy water from the Cerekang River.

Okay the next story is about the tribe and culture of Enrekang.

In Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi, there are three tribes: Enrekang, Duri, and Maiwa. The 3 tribes formed a unit called the Massenrempulu tribe. Massenrempulu, in Enrekang language, means sticking like glutinous rice. The word used to denote the unity of the 3 tribes. In the Bugis language, Massenrempulu is called Massinringbulu, which means mountain range. The Massenrempulu tribe lives in an area consisting of mountains. The most famous mountain and often visited by climbers is Mount Latimojong.

The Massenrempulu tribe does not have various customs: death, marriage, clothing, and others. In marriage, for example, the Massenrempulu tribe does not have ceremonies such as mappacci, korontigi, lekka, and others. Women's families are also very embarrassed if their daughters are proposed with very expensive materials. In the past, the Massenrempulu tribe had an animist religion called Alu 'Tojolo. However, along with the entry of Islam, Alu 'Tojolo was slowly being abandoned. Only villages in the Baraka region have residents who adhere to Alu 'Tojolo. They usually meet regularly 1-2 times a month and they usually perform their rituals on Mount Latimojong.  At present, the Massenrempulu tribe adheres to the simple life concept. They live from farming, trading, and employees, some have migrated to Makassar, Toraja, Kendari, even to cities in Kalimantan and abroad.

The third story continues, which is about the culture of the Konjo tribe.

The Konjo tribe is a sub-ethnic group of the Makassar Tribe, mostly inhabiting Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi Province.  The Konjo tribe inhabits 4 Districts (Bonto Tiro, Kajang, Bonto Bahari and Herlang), all of which are located in the eastern part of Bulukumba Regency.

The Konjo tribe is a tribe in South Sulawesi, especially in the district. Bulukumba, which is divided into two, namely the Konjo Mountains tribe and the Konjo Pesisir tribe.  Each of the two tribes;  Mountain and coastal Konjo have quite different customs and cultures. The Konjo Pesisir tribe inhabits Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The Konjo tribe inhabits 4 Districts (Bonto Tiro, Kajang, Bonto Bahari and Herlang), all of which are located in the eastern part of Bulukumba Regency.

The Konjo people built pinisi sailing ships which are usually thought to be made by the Bugis and Makassar tribes.

One of them is the Kajang Tribe - a traditional village typical of the Konjo tribe.  In this area there is a protected forest that enters this sacred place, travelers or newcomers who will enter this area must wear all black clothes.

The mountain Konjo tribe generally works as farmers. Production-sharing systems are very common among the Konjo tribe, where workers / cultivators receive 1/2 or 1/3 of the profits, depending on who pays for the seeds and planting needs. Hospitality and social interaction are highly emphasized by the Konjo tribe. The Konjo people are 100 percent Muslim. But 75 percent of the Konjo people still maintain their animistic practices. What the Konjo tribe needs is proper irrigation / irrigation techniques, so that they can increase their agricultural output. Besides that, their plantation products have the potential to be better managed.

Okay, i think that's all of about a little stories and knowledge that i had. You can also give your comment or suggestion if you need. Thankyou.
